Integrated Mpox Emergency Response Project (2025–2026)

Hunger Fighters Uganda (HFU), in partnership with the World Food Programme (WFP) and the Ministry of Health, implemented the Integrated Mpox Emergency Response Project to strengthen nutrition, food assistance, monitoring, and community recovery across Mpox treatment units in Entebbe, Mbarara, Hoima, and Masaka.

The project supported 746 Mpox patients, ensuring continuous patient registration, nutrition monitoring, and the provision of three balanced meals daily to all admitted patients and frontline health workers. A total of 28,718 nutritious meals were served, contributing to improved treatment outcomes, patient recovery, and uninterrupted health service delivery.

Beyond facility-based care, HFU facilitated Cash-Based Transfers (CBT) for eligible households, conducted post-discharge community outreach, and implemented phone-based Post-Distribution Monitoring to assess beneficiary satisfaction, household recovery, and programme effectiveness. These activities strengthened accountability, informed continuous programme improvement, and supported household resilience after treatment.

The project also enhanced Infection Prevention and Control (IPC) capacity among monitoring teams, ensuring safe operations within treatment centres while reinforcing quality monitoring and accountability. Through integrated nutrition support, cash assistance, community engagement, and evidence-based monitoring, HFU contributed to improved patient recovery, strengthened household resilience, and a more effective national Mpox response.
